Rail
Drill Tech’s commitment to innovative service means we perform our traditional construction around railroad tracks—be it foundation drilling, earth retention systems, ground treatment, or tunneling. Our teams of experts have completed bid/build contracts as well as emergency services for projects on or near railroad tracks.
Rail Services
Drill Tech Drilling & Shoring, Inc. has an extensive history of railroad projects
and our specialized expertise and fleet of in-house equipment gives us an edge in the industry.
History of Railroad Service
Drill Tech has completed a variety of railroad projects, ranging from ground support to emergency repairs to shotcrete placement. For projects requiring horizontal elements, we’ve installed tiebacks, soil nails, and battered micropiles. We’ve also updated existing rail tunnels using roadheaders for clearance notching to allow our clients to convert to double-stack service. Drill Tech has re-mined existing rail tunnels that have collapsed or even, in one case, caught fire. We’ve installed foundations at a broad range of diameters and depths using our fleet of modified drills customized specifically for railroad projects. Our teams have also placed shotcrete, grout, and CIDH concrete using rail cars.
Rail Equipment
Drill Tech has built an extensive fleet of rail-specialty equipment, as well as traditional equipment our engineers have modified for rail access. When on-rail access is the only option for a project, we add rail gear to a corresponding drill to provide service in a timely, safe manner. Drill Tech has a history of modifying equipment in-house to suit any project, as we have the mechanical knowledge and state-of-the-art shop to expediently develop innovative solutions.
Personnel
Our team of in-house engineers have extensive experience designing work adjacent to railroad tracks, making sure to follow AREMA guidelines as well as guidelines specific to the railroad at hand. One of our specialties is designing temporary shoring systems within the railroad’s right-of-way, which assists in the success of involved projects and construction in close proximity to train traffic. Our office and field personnel have worked adjacent to live track for decades and work professionally with railroad operators to minimize the impact of construction on train operations. Drill Tech has a proud history of clear planning and communication to facilitate efficient, safe, and cost-effective railroad services.
